We are sad to announce that part of The Wetland Trail at Teifi Marshes, the home of The Welsh Wildlife Centre, will be temporarily closing. Our reserve managers have come to the conclusion that this route is in a serious state of disrepair and we can no longer permit access on grounds of health and safety. .
Although this popular circular walk will be affected, there is still the option of doing a circular walk following a public right of way that leads you up to main road passing along Cardigan, over this carriageway, then down the other side coming out just under the bridge over the river Teifi and along the Wetland Trail again.
Nathan Walton, Wildlife Trust Officer for the area says:
“I am now getting together a diversion plan with gates, way markers and signage that I look to implement soon. Although another section of boardwalk on the Wetland Trail that leads to the Heron Hide from the cycle track is also not in a great condition, it can still hopefully be maintained through volunteer effort.”
The attached map shows the section of the Wetland Trail being closed and the diversion. The red line is the section to be closed, the blue line is the proposed diversion and the white line is the rest of the Wetland Trail.
We have calculated costs for installing a new boardwalk with recycled plastic posts, bearers and joists with timber decking. The total figure comes in at just over £51,000.
Unfortunately, this is not something we can fund ourselves and we have already started searching for potential funding opportunities.
