The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales manage Cadoxton Ponds Nature Reserve, a fantastic 35 acre site owned by multinational chemical company Dow Silicones UK Limited. The reserve sits adjacent to the site's manufacturing areas, with an education building suitable for school and community group educational visits and an appointed Education Officer. Dow looks to establish closer links into the community and this is partly achieved through the Education Programme of Events with local schools, as well as events run by their own Community Relations Team.
On Wednesday 31st July, originally scheduled for World Oceans day, but postponed due to bad weather, more than 70 Dow employees, families and friends met at Cold Knap for a beach clean-up, with 130 pounds of litter and waste removed from the beach in the space of 3 hours. This was part of Dow's #PullingOurWeight clean-up initiative with Ocean Conservancy, which promotes the need to be more responsible with the environment when it comes to waste products and litter. MSS Waste Management removed, sorted and recycled the waste. This clean up was one of 50 being organised by Dow around the world.
Why not complete a 5 minute beach clean the next time you visit the coast or join one of our organised beach cleans?
