The Cardiff Wilder Youth Forum
Who are we?
The Cardiff Wilder youth forum is a group of young people passionate about nature. We focus on learning about wildlife, how to survey & protect species, and campaigning for a wilder future.
What are we doing?
Our group is all about youth empowerment, so we work to develop projects & skills based on what our members bring to the table. Below are just a few of the things we are currently working on as a group.
Monitoring Wildlife
Our group help to collect species data from across the city, helping to build a better picture of how wildlife is doing around the city. We run a nest box monitoring project at Forest Farm each Spring, learning about bird nesting behaviours up close. Some of our members have also been helping with dormouse surveys across Cardiff, with more opportunities like this coming up in the summer. We also help gain accredited survey skills where possible, with past examples including bat, herptile, and water vole surveying.
Restoring our Rivers
We're campaigning to Save Our Taff from sewage, plastic and chemical pollution. Over the last 3 years our forum have developed the Save our Taff campaign, where we work to highlight the pollution issues facing our beloved river Taff. The next step is to monitor water quality and collect data about the health of our river, and to jon the wider movement of campaigning for freshwater health with other groups across Wales and beyond.
Building a Community
Most importantly, we're building a strong community of young people across Cardiff who care about nature. We have regular meetings and socials, and will be offering opportunities to join the wider youth network across the Wildlife Trust - so watch this space for some exciting stuff!
