Secret Garden Café

Saving wildflowers one sip at a time

The Secret Garden Café are a small café with a big impact. The Café serves delicious local produce meals, is powered entirely by solar energy and is fitted with a green roof to benefit pollinators. The passionate and dedicated staff are committed to sustainability, which also means that their packaging is compostable, but customers receive a discounted hot drink for using a reusable cup.

The Secret Café approached us to become a corporate #WILDFundraiser in order to give back to wildflower meadows and pollinators in south and west Wales. As a Café that does takeaway's, it is not practical to phase our takeaway cups completely, so, with the help of a local Cardiff based illustrator, the Café have produced wonderful takeaway cups that support our wildflower meadow management projects.

For every cup sold, the Secret Garden Café donate 10p to the Trust. So far, the Secret Garden Café have donated £4050 to support wildflowers, their management and pollinators in south and west Wales!

We're thankful to the Secret Garden Café for their support - what a fantastic way to showcase that businesses can contribute to nature's recovery and support wildlife and wild spaces for the future.

We’ve realised that within our cafe at Bute park, takeaway will always be the most popular choice, therefore takeaway cups will continue to be a big part of our offering. Ultimately reusable cups are the best option, and we offer discount on these.

So this got me thinking, how can I make a negative into a positive……
Biodiversity loss, and loss of habitats for wildlife is a major problem, especially within the UK. Insect loss, and the decline of butterfly populations is in dire need of a helping hand.

The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales are an organisation that are actively working hard to try and reverse this decline, and are creating nature hotspots, with their reserves. This is something I’d like to support….the next question I asked myself was, how can I support this?

So, I’ve commissioned a local female artist to create an illustration of a wildflower meadow, a rare and decreasing habitat in Wales. To bring an awareness of these landscapes, and to use it as a way to support and raise money for The Wildlife trust south and west wales. For every cup we will give 10p to the Trust.
