Back in May of this year the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales had the pleasure of a visit from Ray Mears and his film crew. Ray was filming for his ITV series which comes out this October, called Wild Britain. The programme they filmed for was specifically focussed on island life and Skomer was the perfect venue. On the programme Ray talks with wildlife experts, historians and finds out about this wonderful sanctuary. Walking round the island was an education for all and we enjoyed talking about the merits of eating burdock root and what it must have been like for people living out in this wild but beautiful place.
When there were quiet times Ray managed to catch up on some reading and he clearly had a sense of understanding and kinship with Ronald Lockley, the naturalist who features so strongly in the Trust's history and in the history of Skomer's sister island Skokholm.Ray clearly enjoyed his time out on the island with the fantastic aray of wildlife all around him and the solitude which, even at busy times, you can achieve in this stunning place. The show will be on ITV, October 21st 8pm.
