Pembrokeshire Pelagics

In July and August 2013 the Mid Pembrokeshire and Pembrokeshire Bird group Sections had three very successful pelagic trips from Neyland.

These boat trips give the opportunity both to members and non members of seeing wildlife in areas normally out of reach.

Also, the days are a good opportunity to introduce new members to the Trust, any sightings of note are passed with photos and data to the relevant research groups involved in particular species.  There was also a little money left over in ‘the kitty’ for the MPSection.

A typical trip is about 8 hours and takes in St Ann’s head, Skomer and /or Skokholm, Grassholm, The Smalls Lighthouse and a route looking dolphins birds etc

This year we saw Common, Risso’s dolphin, and porpoise.  Also the highly active Grassholm Gannet colony, Auks, Storm petrels, Fulmars, Manx Shearwaters, Skuas, Waders, Scoter, Mediterranean Gulls and over the islands Peregrine falcon, Chough, Raven etc etc  Plus Moon, Compass and Blue jellyfish.

Thanks to Robin Taylor for organising the trips and to skipper Nick O’Sullivan and his boat Celtic Wildcat.

For details of the 2014 trips please see the WTSWW website and the Pembrokeshire Bird Group Blogsite at  at the start of 2014.

We look forward to seeing those who came once more and to many more happy days at sea.  Lyndon Lomax
