About the event

The Oxwich National Nature Reserve, managed by Natural Resources Wales, has an incredible variety of wild flowers blooming in June. Chalk-loving plants are very much at home there on the sand dunes due to the crushed seashells being blown in from the beach.

Joan Darbyshire is a expert botanist who knows the area very well and we are fortunate that she will be leading this walk for us, during which we hope to see orchids including Bee Orchids Ophrys apifera and Pyramidal Orchids Anacamptis pyramidalis.

We will meet near the barrel sauna at the eastern end of the car park. The walk will take three hours with a break for refreshments at the mid-point. We will walk across the dunes and explore some of the woodland behind the dunes.  Please bring drinks and snacks and dress for the weather forecast on the day with sunscreen and hats if necessary.

The paths over and between the sand dunes can be uneven with some briars so they present moderate difficulty for walking. Children are welcome but must be accompanied by adults. This walk is unsuitable for buggies and wheelchairs. Dogs must be on short leads. Facilities in the Oxwich Bay car park include a cafe and toilets.

We ask for a donation of at least £1 per adult to cover our costs. Please be aware there is a charge for the car park of £7 per day.

Please book via Eventbrite or if you're unable to use Eventbrite, email SwanseaWTgroup@outlook.com.
