Remembering Dainis Ozols

Remembering our friend Dainis Ozols, 1955-2026.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Dainis Ozols on 23rd March 2026.

Dainis first volunteered with Brecknock Wildlife Trust in 2009. This followed his retirement from an interesting sounding career with the Metropolitan Police. Both he and his wife Wendy were stalwarts of the volunteer team for many years. Dainis was able to turn his hand to anything. This included coppicing, hedge laying, bracken bashing, replacing fences, counting globeflowers, or helping Wendy with Dormouse and Red Kite monitoring. Latterly he helped with the Bat calls analysis when he could no longer do active work.

Dainis was very caring and during his time as a Trustee of Brecknock Wildlife Trust always showed great concern for staff wellbeing. This was particularly during the time of change for the Trust when merging to WTSWW.

A collection was made in memorium for the Multiple System Atrophy Trust.
