We were incredibly sad to hear of the passing of Heidi Newport in May 2026.
Heidi joined our marine conservation team at Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre, as a volunteer in September 2023. During her nine week placement she assisted with almost every aspect of our work. From marine mammal surveys, to processing data and educating visitors, her dedication to conservation was clear. Heidi was a pleasure to work with. She developed friendships with other seasonal volunteers, consistently showing her commitment to volunteering and wildlife.
In honour of Heidi’s memory her colleagues at the North West Office of RammSanderson raised £1,700 to support the work of CBMWC. Heidi began her career with the ecological consultancy as a graduate ecologist. She quickly progressed to an assistant ecologist role.

"Heidi often spoke fondly about her time volunteering at the Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife. The experience meant a great deal to her and helped nurture her passion for wildlife and conservation during the early stages of her career. Luckily for us, that experience inspired Heidi to pursue a career in ecology, ultimately leading her to join the team at RammSanderson. In recognition of this, we felt there could be no more fitting tribute than to donate the funds to CBMWC's volunteer programme. This donation will help provide opportunities for aspiring conservationists, just as Heidi once benefited from. It will enable them to gain valuable experience and develop their own careers in wildlife conservation. We hope this donation will help continue Heidi's legacy by supporting future volunteers. We hope it inspires others to share the same passion, enthusiasm and dedication to wildlife that she brought to everything she did."
