31/07/2017: 17 Bottlenose Dolphins and 4 Atlantic Grey Seals

1.5 hour survey. Start time 10:45
Weather conditions: sea state 1-3, visibility >10km, light swell
5 bottlenose dolphins and 2 Atlantic grey seals

Two dolphins were spotted foraging in the bay at the start of the survey. Shortly after two Atlantic grey seals were seen swimming in the water close to the headland. A lone dolphin was observed foraging and at the end of the survey a mother and calf pair was seen travelling out of the New Quay bay area.

1.5 hour survey. Start time 12:20
Weather conditions: sea state 1-2, visibility 0-1 and 1-10km, light swell
8 bottlenose dolphins and 1 Atlantic grey seal

There was a heavy downpour at the start of the survey reducing the visibility, though this did not stop the crew from spotting a group of 4 dolphins, including the mother and calf seen at the end of the previous survey. Later an Atlantic grey seal was seen bottling in the water before a further two groups of dolphins were observed foraging.

6 bottlenose dolphins and 1 Atlantic grey seal

Three bottlenose dolphins were spotted just out from the bay; they were only seen briefly so their behaviour was marked as unknown. A lone Atlantic grey seal was observed bottling in the water before another 3 dolphins were seen travelling.
