2hr survey. Start time 07:00
Weather conditions: Sunny/sun with showers, sea state 1-2, wind direction SE-S
Five Bottlenose dolphins

The first sighting on this survey was at about half an hour into the survey when a mother and calf just off the harbour wall were seen travelling south east. This group was then seen leaping just off the harbour wall and was joined by an individual dolphin that travelled east in front of the harbour wall. The mother and calf remained for half an hour in the survey area foraging. The single dolphin that was foraging was joined by another mother and calf group which also foraged. The single dolphin joined the mother and calf group around the cardinal buoy and they remained there leaping until the end of the survey.

Seven Bottlenose dolphins

At the very start of this survey a group of five dolphins including one calf was seen leaping around the cardinal buoy and these remained there for half an hour. Two other dolphins then split form this group and foraged near the fish factory leaving three near the cardinal buoy milling at the surface. The dolphins around the cardinal buoy remained milling for half an hour until they began leaping again. Another dolphin joined these and foraged near the cardinal buoy. The two dolphins around the cardinal buoy remained foraging there until the end of the survey, whilst two individual dolphins were also seen. One of these travelled west towards the fish factory and the other foraged offshore before both disappeared. Then in the last 15 minutes of the survey three individual dolphins were seen with one foraging in front of the harbour wall, another travelling east towards the cardinal buoy and the third also foraging near the cardinal buoy.

Two more dolphins were seen travelling east towards the cardinal buoy 45 minutes into the survey and remained travelling for half an hour and were then joined by a mother and calf which travelled west offshore. These were then seen travelling whilst foraging near the harbour wall whilst another mother and calf group was seen milling near the cardinal buoy. A single dolphin was seen milling offshore whilst the group near the cardinal buoy remained there for a further 15 minutes before being seen leaping offshore during last 15 minutes of the survey.
