16/10/12: Bottlenose Dolphins and Atlantic grey seals

Weather conditions: Fair/Sunny, sea state 4/5, wind W

Three bottlenose dolphins and one Atlantic grey seal

 

The first dolphins were seen about half way through the survey. Two bottlenose dolphins were foraging close to the harbour wall. Shortly after another bottlenose dolphin joined and a female Atlantic grey seal was also seen. These remained around the harbour wall for approximately half an hour,

No sightings

2hr survey; start time 13:00

Weather conditions: Fair, sea state 3, wind SW

Eight bottlenose dolphins and one Atlantic grey seal

 

No sightings were recorded until near the end of the survey when a female Atlantic grey seal was seen just off from the harbour wall. Eight bottlenose dolphins were seen travelling with long dives in an easterly direction towards the cardinal buoy.

Weather conditions: Sunny, sea state 2/3, wind SW/WSW

Nine bottlenose dolphins and one Atlantic grey seal

 

At the beginning of the survey six dolphins with one calf were leaping and playing by the cardinal buoy. These then dispersed leaving just three bottlenose dolphins mingling at the surface near the cardinal buoy. One female Atlantic grey seal was then seen near the harbour wall. Later on three bottlenose dolphins were seen travelling east from the fish factory towards the cardinal buoy.
