Caws Teifi Cheese

Supporting wildlife at Cilgerran

Caws Teifi Cheese is the most highly awarded artisan cheesemakers in Britain and is the oldest artisan cheesemaker in Wales.

Their milk comes from an organic farm in Llanboidy, where they have a small herd of Jersey cows and New Zealand Friesians. As well as an organic pasture-fed system that have worked to enhance biodiversity on the farm, they have reduced antibiotic usage by 96%, sequestered hundreds of tonnes of carbon per acre, and have removed synthetic fertiliser and the use of agro-chemicals completely.

The raw milk used in Caws Teifi Cheese's production uses at-least half the amount of energy needed for pasteurised cheese production.

Caws Teifi Cheese support our Welsh Wildlife Centre and Teifi Marshes in Cilgerran by donating 10p per kilo of sales from their organic halloumi.  We love to see farmers setting an example and are thankful to Caws Teifi Cheese for their support.

We at Caws Teifi wanted to donate to The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales because we are very aware of how wonderful the eco-system is around us, how important it is for us to farm, and how fragile it is.

Our company is named after the magnificent river Teifi that flows in the hills surrounding the farm and we want to support the Welsh Widlife Centre in Cilgerran for all the wonderful work it does in keeping this precious part of nature thriving.

Caws Teifi Cheese support mid-Wales Red Squirrels

Since 2002 WTSWW has been part of the Mid Wales Red Squirrel Partnership which works to establish a sound baseline of information about the red squirrel population in mid Wales. Numbers in the UK have fallen from a onetime high thought to be around 3.5 million, to a current estimated population of around 120,000.

As well as saving one of the last Welsh populations of Red Squirrels, this project has built social connections within the local communities and connections between local people and wildlife.  A healthy population of Red Squirrels could also being economic benefits to this area through tourism.

We’re really happy to support WTSWW through sales of our Halloumi. We’re particularly excited to hear that our most recent donation will contribute towards the red squirrel project as it’s a very worthy cause.”
