Welsh Wildlife Centre pre-summer updates

Welsh Wildlife Centre pre-summer updates

We’ve been super busy here at the Welsh Wildlife Centre and Teifi Marshes Nature Reserve recently...

On the Reserve

With the hot weather and recent rain, everything on the reserve seems to be growing rapidly so there’s lots of cutting back required to keep the trails accessible. The pond by the Visitor Centre has had some landscaping work done; our regular volunteers have planted marginal and oxygenating plants around and in the water make improvements for the fabulous wildlife that we get there. Newts, toadlets, beetles, damselflies and dragonflies have already been seen in good numbers, enjoying the enhanced habitat. Do please remember to keep dogs on leads and out of water features to protect our precious wildlife.

In the Visitor Centre

Lots of visitors have been making the most of the sun and enjoying beautiful walks on the reserve. And what could be better after a walk than a visit to The Glasshouse Café where there’s a fine selection of meals and snacks available? Summer favourites like quiches, ploughman’s and baguettes share the menu with seasonal specials created by our dedicated team; of course, you will need to leave room for one of the tempting homemade cakes! As always there’s options for those with special dietary requirements with all common allergens listed. Lunches are served 12pm- 2.30pm with breakfast baguettes served 10am – 12pm.

If you’ve not been in the gift shop for a while, please come and have a look around. There’s lots new, including more from local crafts people and exciting new clothes, bags and other products especially created for us.

What’s on?

In addition to our self-led trails, we have a number of guided walks and activities coming up soon; please check our website and Facebook events pages for details. If you are a welsh speaker or learner do contact g.taylor@welshwildlife.org to enquire about our free monthly ‘Cerdded, Coffi a Chlonc’ mornings. The session in June was ‘bendigedig’ with participants exploring the wildflower meadow, learning Welsh names for plants and finding Greater Butterfly Orchids (Tegeirianau Llydanwyrdd) amongst others. The weather was lovely and there was lots of opportunity to chat in Welsh, with a variety of learner levels and first language speakers. All are very welcome to the next session which will be on the 7th of July at 11am.

With only four weeks until the end of term we are busy planning events for families to enjoy when they visit. Every Wednesday-Friday during school holidays there will be an outside activity in the morning and a craft activity in the afternoon. All cost £4 per child and further details will be coming soon; keep an eye on our Facebook and webpages https://www.welshwildlife.org/events https://www.facebook.com/WelshWildlifeCentre/events
