Ellie

I am excited to be starting a placement year with the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales where I will be working as part of the Engagement Team as a Field Assistant. I will be helping with the Stand for Nature Wales project in Cardiff which aims to encourage young people to tackle climate change through youth-led action projects, as well as on the Nextdoor Nature project which provides communities in Swansea with support to help nature in their local area.

I study Biological Sciences (Zoology) at Cardiff University and have enjoyed learning about conservation as a part of my degree. Last year I joined the committee of the Wildlife and Conservation Society at university through which I got involved with the Stand for Nature Wales project with the Wildlife Trust. As part of the Stand for Nature project we have been campaigning for green spaces to be mown less in order to help pollinators as well as helping to improve a community garden for nature and I am looking forward to this aspect of my placement.

I can't wait to find out what working in conservation is like and to work face-to-face with communities across Cardiff and Swansea and encourage more people to act for nature and spread awareness about wildlife-related issues.
