Glasshouse Café open 10 am – 5pm (hot food served 12noon – 2.30pm)
Our café has a daily specials board which changes according to the seasonality and availability of our ingredients. You can always be sure that the dishes we produce are homemade, fresh and tasty.l
Typical dishes may include:
Soups – always homemade, always a vegetarian option and often a vegan, fish or meat one too, soup is served with a roll and Welsh butter.
Fishcakes – in season these could be made from local coracle caught salmon or sewin (sea trout) which are caught by environment agency accredited local fishermen in the river Teifi which runs through the heart of the reserve. We also use locally caught rainbow trout and smoked haddock. Fishcakes are served with a selection of the days salads and a lemon and herb mayonnaise.
Homity Pie – an open pie with leeks and potatoes flavoured with garlic and herbs and topped with a mature welsh cheddar cheese. Varieties on this theme include our Teifi pie which incorporates chunks of local fish and Pembrokeshire pie which has meaty chunks of bacon and fresh sage. These are all served warm, often straight from the oven with a selection of salads (V).
Glasshouse nut or beanburgers – handmade with fresh herbs and vegetables, oats and either toasted cashew nuts or a variety of pulses. These are served with a tangy homemade tomato sauce and salads. (Vegan)
Turkish courgette and feta fritters – made with gram flour (hence naturally gluten/wheat free), these are flavoured with mint and dill and served with mango chutney and salads. Early in the season look out for our popular wild garlic and feta fritters. (V)
Ploughman’s lunches – Welsh cheese ploughman’s consists of a mature Caerfili cheddar cheese and a locally sourced artisan cheese such as Pant Mawr smoked Cerwyn. These are accompanied by homemade chutney, free range local egg, fresh salads and a roll, (often homemade as well if time allows). Welsh cheese and ham ploughman’s has the mature cheddar and accompaniments as before but with the inclusion of tasty sliced ham.
Salad bowl – a selection of our daily salads served in a large bowl with olives and a roll (homemade when possible).
Meat Dishes – we always have a selection of meat dishes on the menu depending upon what is available at the time. Typically these may include Catalan pork and chorizo stew, Welsh beef goulash flavoured with smoked paprika, lasagnes, curries, shepherds/cottage pies, meatballs, herb crumbed chicken escalopes, pork steaks in Welsh cider, a variety of game dishes in season and many more!
Seafood dishes – again depending upon the seasonality of the produce we may have beautifully dressed cardigan bay crab salad, fresh crab club sandwiches, simple and tasty pan-fried mackerel straight from the sea and other fish which our fishermen bring us from time to time. I always try to treat these excellent quality fresh local ingredients with the respect which they deserve.
