The unstable boardwalk that needs fixing

The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales recently applied for a Tesco Bags of Help grant towards improving the boardwalk on the Teifi Marshes’ wetland trail. Our boardwalk project was shortlisted as one of three projects which were then put to a public vote in local Tesco stores.  We are extremely pleased and excited to announce that the project was awarded the full grant of £12,000!  The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales would like say a big thank you to Tesco and everyone who voted for us.

Nia Stephens, People and Wildlife Officer for the Wildlife Trust said

"As many of our regular visitors will know; parts of the boardwalk on our wetland trail is getting old and unstable in places and badly needs replacing. The section from the Cilgerran end to Otter hide is the oldest part, this section is also being undercut by the stream so needs to be rerouted and replaced. We would like to replace this part of the boardwalk using recycled plastic supports and bearers which will last much longer in the wet conditions than wood. Replacing boardwalk especially using recycled plastic is very expensive and without this possible grant from Tesco’s Bags of Help we would be unable to fund the project."

The new improved section of boardwalk will be installed using recycled plastic posts, bearers and joists which will last much longer than wood in the wet conditions of the Teifi Marshes.  The improvements to the boardwalk will begin in the new year.
