Celebrating Christmas in Llandeilo

For a number of years, WTSWW has been building a strong working relationship with AJ’s Retro Diner in Llandeilo. The owners live immediately adjacent to our flagship Castle Woods nature reserve, and Duncan Olivier is also voluntary warden. Since moving to Llandeilo he has been very supportive of our work, and when he and his partner established AJ’s a couple of years ago, it provided even more opportunities for close partnership working. They have been kind enough to work with us to help raise awareness of our nature reserve and its conservation- and they have also raised funds to support Castle Woods.

This year, we’ve worked with AJ’s to celebrate Christmas, Wildlife Trust style, with a wildlife themed Christmas window display in the diner. The colourful panel features a Father Christmas Badger riding a sleigh past Dinefwr Castle, pulled by a European Beaver (and with a Red Squirrel at the reins). It is a festive masterpiece created by dedicated Trust volunteer, Geoff Powell. Geoff, who lives in south Ceredigion, is the creator of the jubilee Otter sculpture that stands in Cardigan town, by the river. As well as being an artist, Geoff has been a very regular volunteer for many years on all of our nature reserves including Castle Woods. He created this seven feet long Christmas banner using acrylics on card, and it is accompanied by a two dimensional golden Christmas tree created from a branch of a Beech tree that was a by-product of nature reserve management.

We’re very grateful to Duncan and AJ’s for working with us in this celebration of our work in the Llandeilo area, and we hope it raises lots of smiles amongst the Christmas shoppers in town as well as celebrating our conservation work and our partnership with their business.

As a special offer to the recipients of this WTSWW e-newsletter, AJ’s have offered a downloadable and printable AJs Voucher for use in the diner. Presentation of a printed voucher will give you 5% off your bill, and AJ’s will also make a further 5% donation to us as well. So if you take a trip to Llandeilo this winter, either for some last minute Christmas shopping or as a new year excursion, why not take a walk round our Castle Woods nature reserve and drop into AJs- you’ll be supporting us twice over!

Merry Christmas, and may Father Christmas Badger visit you this festive season!
