02/05/2018: Bottlenose dolphins, Atlantic grey seal
Weather conditions: Sunny/overcast, Sea state 2-4, Wind direction variable
Bottlenose dolphins were spotted mid-way through yesterday’s 7am watch, seen in groups foraging off shore north of the harbour. The remainder of the morning was then quiet except for a solitary Atlantic grey seal. It all changed in the afternoon when our volunteers saw dolphins throughout every survey up until the days watches came to a close at 7pm. The cetaceans could be seen foraging with long dives, surfacing regularly and occasionally lunging at the water’s surface (although quite far away). We once again saw Snowcap; a highly popular individual amongst our team; seen in the attached photos. A little gull and sandwich tern were also sighted.
