Sightings Update 15/07/19: Bottlenose dolphins

Weather conditions: Fair/Sunny, Sea state 1/2, Wind direction variable

Our Living Seas volunteers conducted surveys from 7am to 5pm yesterday. Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout all 5 surveys travelling and foraging around the bay. In the 5pm survey a Bottlenose dolphin was seen leaping right in front of the harbour wall.

 

Sightings Update 08/07/19: Bottlenose dolphins

Weather conditions: Fair/Sunny, sea state 0-1, Wind direction N/NW

Our Living Seas volunteers conducted four land surveys from 9-5 yesterday from New Quay Harbour Wall. Bottlenose dolphins were seen in three of the four surveys and in the 1pm survey, 5 bottlenose dolphins including one juvenile were spotted right in front of the harbour wall.

Sightings Update 04/07/2019: Bottlenose dolphins

Weather conditions: Sunny, Sea state 0-1, Wind direction NW/N/NE

Our Living Seas volunteers conducted four surveys in the sunshine yesterday from the harbour wall. Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout all of the surveys, we even had a mother and a juvenile foraging and splashing out near the cardinal marker.

 

Sightings Update: 03/07/2019: Bottlenose Dolphins, Atlantic Grey Seals

Weather conditions: Sea state 2-3, Visibility >10, Light

Living Seas volunteers conducted two boat surveys aboard the Anna Lloyd. On our first trip, An Atlantic Grey Seal was spotted swimming in the water. As we were finishing our trip, three bottlenose dolphins made an appearance, foraging and swimming. Bottlenose dolphins were also spotted during the second trip, travelling south.

Sightings Update 28/06/19: Bottlenose dolphins

Weather conditions: Sunny, Sea state 2-3, Wind direction E/SE

Our Living Seas volunteers carried out six surveys in the beautiful sunshine on New Quay Harbour wall from 7am-7pm yesterday. Bottlenose dolphins were seen from 11am foraging and leaping out near the cardinal marker. A group of 6 dolphins with a calf were also seen in the 5pm survey travelling across the bay.

Sightings Update 25/06/2019: Bottlenose Dolphins

Weather conditions: Visibility <2km, Sea state 1-2, Wind direction variable

Our Living Seas volunteers conducted four land surveys between 9am-5pm on New Quay Harbour Wall. Despite the misty conditions, bottlenose dolphins were seen in all surveys foraging and travelling across the bay.

Sightings Update 25/06/2019: Bottlenose Dolphins

Weather conditions: Visibility <2 km , Sea state 1-2, Wind direction very variable

Our Living Seas volunteers conducted four land surveys between 9am-5pm on New Quay Harbour Wall. Despite the misty conditions, bottlenose dolphins were seen in all surveys foraging and travelling across the bay.

Sightings Update 19/06/2019: Bottlenose Dolphins

Weather conditions: Sunny, Sea state 1-2, Wind direction N/NW

Our Living Seas volunteers carried out four surveys in the bright sunshine on New Quay Harbour wall from 9am-5pm yesterday. Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout the day. During the first survey a group of four dolphins including a juvenile were seen foraging just in front of the harbour wall. Our volunteers also observed a variety of bird life including northern gannets and oyster catchers.

Sightings Update 15/06/2019: Bottlenose Dolphins and Atlantic Grey Seals

Weather conditions: Mostly overcast with some sunny spells, Sea state 1, Wind direction W/SW

 

Our Living Seas volunteers surveyed New Quay Harbour from 9am-5pm yesterday. Dolphins were observed throughout the day foraging and travelling along the bay. In the 11am survey a group of adult dolphins and one juvenile were seen at the surface milling around near the fish factory. In the 3pm survey one Atlantic grey seal was spotted in front of the harbour wall.

 

Sightings Update 30/05/2019: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seals

Weather conditions: Variable with strong winds, Sea state 1-3, Wind direction S/SW

Living seas volunteers conducted six surveys yesterday with dolphins spotted in the two morning surveys between 7am – 11am. Dolphins were seen foraging by the cardinal marker and in front of the harbour wall.

One Atlantic grey seal was spotted swimming in front of the harbour wall a couple of times in a few different surveys.
