Sightings Update 27/08/2019: Bottlenose dolphins

Weather conditions: Sunny/fair, Sea state 0-2, wind direction variable

Our Living Seas volunteers conducted surveys from 7am-7pm. Only 3 bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout the day in the first (7am) and last (7pm) survey. They were seen travelling across the bay and foraging.

Sightings Update: 26/08/19: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic Grey Seals

Weather conditions: Sunny/Overcast, Sea state 1-2, Variable

Our Living Seas volunteers conducted surveys from 7am-7pm out on New Quay harbour wall. Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout the day, travelling and foraging out in the bay. In the 7am survey they could be spotted right in front of the wall. An Atlantic Grey Seal could also be seen not far from the wall on three occasions.

Sightings Update 25/08/19: Bottlenose Dolphins

Weather Conditions:  Mostly sunny; wind direction variable; sea state 1

A single bottlenose dolphin was briefly observed foraging 1km off shore in the morning.  During the afternoon two dolphins were spotted foraging off the headland.  In the evening three dolphins stayed for nearly two hours and were seen leaping and socialising.

Sightings Update 24/07/19: Bottlenose dolphins

Weather conditions: Sunny, Sea state 1-2, SE

Our Living Seas volunteers conducted surveys in the beautiful sunshine from 7am-5pm yesterday out on the harbour wall in New Quay. Bottlenose dolphins could be seen in four of the surveys travelling and foraging in the bay.

Sightings Update 21/08/19: Bottlenose dolphins

Weather conditions: Sunny at first but clouding over with showers later; wind direction SE/S/SW; sea state 2/3 becoming calm by end of the day

Mid-morning a group of four dolphins were spotted foraging just off the end of the sea wall. They remained for one hour before leaving the area.  A mother and juvenile were then observed foraging across the bay until they too left early in the afternoon.

Sightings Update: 19/08/19: Bottlenose Dolphins

Weather conditions: Variable, Sea state 2-3, wind direction SW/W/NW

Our Living Seas volunteers conducted surveys from 7am-5pm yesterday out on the harbour wall. Bottlenose dolphins were spotted in the 9am-1pm surveys, milling right in front of the harbour wall. Lots of birds were also spotted whilst conducting these surveys, including a Red Kite.

Sightings 18/08/19: Bottlenose dolphins & Atlantic grey seal

Our land surveys yesterday produced excellent sightings of bottlenose dolphins for our Living Seas Volunteers.  Two dolphins were present in the bay at the start of our surveys at 7am.  Later in the morning numbers increased so at midday there were ten individuals in the bay foraging and socialising.  Up to 20 individuals in total were seen including a young calf. Later in the day an Atlantic grey seal was seen travelling towards the headland.

Sightings Update: 17/08/19: Bottlenose Dolphins

Weather conditions: Variable, Sea state 1-3, wind direction S/SW/SW

Our Living Seas volunteers conducted surveys from 9am-7pm yesterday out on the harbour wall. Bottlenose dolphins were seen in every survey, including a mother and calf. Some dolphins were seen leaping and foraging right in front of the harbour wall. A variety of birds were also spotted, including oyster catchers and mute swans.

Sightings Update 16/08/2019: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seal

Weather conditions: Mostly overcast with periods of heavy rain, Sea state 2-3, S/SW

Our Living Seas volunteers conducted surveys from 7am-3pm. Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout all of the surveys. The dolphins were seen leaping, foraging and travelling across the bay. An Atlantic grey seal was seen at 10:45. Gannets were also seen diving with the dolphins.

Sightings Update 15/08/2019: Bottlenose dolphins, Atlantic grey seal

Weather conditions: Sunny, Sea state 2-4, wind direction variable

Our Living Seas volunteers conducted surveys from 7am-5pm. Dolphins were seen throughout all of the surveys, including a juvenile in the morning. The dolphins were seen leaping and foraging throughout the day. An adult Atlantic grey seal was also seen at 7am. Over 50 sandwich terns were spotted between 9am and 11am.
