Sightings Update 21/09/19: Atlantic grey seals

Weather conditions: Sunny, Sea state 2-4, Wind direction SE

 

It was a quiet day for our Living Seas volunteers yesterday despite the lovely weather. Four surveys were conducted from 9am-5pm yesterday, and two Atlantic Grey Seals were seen in the last two surveys.

Sightings Update 15/09/19: Bottlenose Dolphins

Weather conditions: Fair with sunny periods, sea state 1-2, wind SW

A good day for our surveys from land with bottlenose dolphins being present throughout the day.  Our Living Seas Volunteers saw a total of ten bottlenose dolphins foraging and socialising mostly near the Cardinal marker.  At times individual dolphins came in close to the harbour wall giving watchers good views.

Sightings Update 11/09/2019: Bottlenose Dolphins and Atlantic Grey Seals

Weather conditions: Overcast with fair and sunny intervals, Sea state 1-3, wind direction SW

 

Our Living Seas Volunteers conducted surveys from 7am-7pm. Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout the day. During the 3-5pm survey an Atlantic grey seal was seen travelling along the harbour wall. Volunteers also spotted gannets, black backed gulls and cormorants.

Sightings Update 10/09/2019: Bottlenose Dolphins

Weather conditions: Fair/ Sunny, Sea State 2-3, Wind Direction NW

Our Living Seas volunteers conducted six land surveys yesterday. It was a quiet morning, but at mid- day we recorded three bottlenose dolphins travelling into the bay and milling at the surface, one of which our ShoreFin volunteers identified from our bottlenose dolphin catalogue as Lipstick. We also spotted a common house martin during the last survey.
