Description: Please join expert and author Pat O’Reilly for an illustrated interactive presentation ‘Fascinated by Fungi – exploring the Forgotten Kingdom’ – a participative exploration of the weird and wonderful world of fungi, organisms that seem to have discovered the secret of eternal youth. Here is an outline of the day and some of the topics that will be covered:

Mushroom10.30am – 11.30am

Evolution  of fungi – any shape you can imagine, and more colours than are found in the rainbow

  • Types of fungi and how they live, feed and breed
  • Mushrooms  from macroscopic and microscopic viewpoints
  • Our crucial dependence on the forgotten kingdom
  • How  the rest of the natural world depends of fungi
  • Fungal  facts and fiction, myths and mysteries
  • Magic  mushrooms and tragic tales of toxic toadstools
  • A brief guide to safe foraging
  • Fun fungi things that you can do at home to learn more about the forgotten   kingdom of fungi

11-45am – 1-00pm

Guided fungus foray within Teifi Marshes Nature Reserve

1-00pm LUNCH in the cafe followed by a half-hour Fungus Identification Session where Pat will help participants to identify, where possible to species level, mushrooms or other fungi that are either found but not identified during the foray or have been brought to the event.
