Located in the heart of New Quay in West Wales, Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre is a hub of marine research and education. It was founded in 1996 to raise awareness of Cardigan Bay’s marine wildlife. This September, we're celebrating 30 years of Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre. 

30 years of pioneering research. 30 years of inspiring people. 30 years of protecting marine life in Cardigan Bay.

But the future of marine life and the centre is uncertain. We face more challenges than ever to secure the funding we need to continue our important work.

The UK's biggest population of Bottlenose Dolphins

Bottlenose Dolphins can live for up to 50 years, meaning there are dolphins alive today that could have been spotted in Cardigan Bay when centre was first started. We want to ensure these individuals and future generations of Bottlenose Dolphins can continue to be protected in Cardigan Bay. 

The next generation of marine conservationists 

Over the last 30 years, the centre has hosted over 1000 volunteers. These volunteering opportunities provide essential experience and training for early-career conservationists. We want to be able to continue to educate and inspire young people to take action for our oceans. 

Pioneering discoveries about wildlife under the waves 

We have made some ground-breaking discoveries over the last 30 years- from signature whistles to rare shark sightings. All the data we have collected helps us to build a better picture of marine life in Welsh waters, which in turn enables us to inform conservation measures and policy to better protect these amazing animals.
