Six bottlenose dolphins including two calves and one Atlantic grey seal
45 minutes into the survey, pair of dolphins was seen foraging between the harbour wall and the fish factory, along with another pair who were seen travelling in a south westerly direction while searching for food. An Atlantic grey seal was also sighted at the same time. Later, a mother and calf were seen milling at the harbour wall. The dolphins were seen for the rest of the survey, travelling, foraging and milling near the harbour wall and inside of the harbour. Another mother and calf were also observed foraging inside the harbour at the end of the survey.
2 hour survey, start time 11:00
Weather conditions: Overcast/dull/fair, sea state 4-5, wind NW
Eight bottlenose dolphins including two calves and one Atlantic grey seal
Dolphins, including two mothers and with calves were seen throughout the entire survey. Other dolphins were observed entering and leaving area. All dolphins were mostly seen foraging near the harbour wall and cardinal buoy. Some were also seen leaping, tail slapping and lunging. As well as the dolphins, one Atlantic grey seal was seen near the harbour wall at the end of the survey.
2 hour survey, start time 13:00
Weather conditions: Overcast/dull/rain, sea state 4, wind SW -W
Nine bottlenose dolphins including two calves and one Atlantic grey seal
Dolphins were observed from the start of the survey. A mother and calf were seen foraging inside the harbour and another two dolphins were seen foraging close to the cardinal buoy. Another five dolphins, including a mother and calf entered the survey area, and all dolphins were seen foraging, travelling and leaping between the harbour wall and fish factory and inside the harbour. Eventually, a group of seven dolphins and one calf formed. which were seen leaving the area after one hour. Shortly after, the other mother and calf were seen travelling west towards the fish factory. There were no other sightings for the rest of the survey.
