04/05/15: 11 bottlenose dolphins

Two Bottlenose dolphins

In the beginning of the survey one individual was spotted making long dives and thought to be foraging at depth. This individual was spotted exhibiting this behaviour in different areas throughout the survey. Another dolphin then joined this individual in the final interval and exhibits the same foraging behaviour.

Weather conditions: sunny, sea state 1, wind direction NW-SW
Two Bottlenose dolphins

Two dolphins were spotted at the beginning of this survey near the fish factory and were observed to be making long dives which indicate that this individual was foraging at depth. During the next two intervals one of the dolphins left the survey area whilst the other continued to forage at depth closer to the harbour wall before also leaving the survey area.

Weather conditions: sunny, sea state 2, wind direction N
Three Bottlenose dolphins

During this survey one dolphin was spotted travelling towards the fish factory before stopping and milling around the fish factory. Then two other dolphins entered the survey area traveling away from the fish factory before stopping near the cardinal buoy to forage at depth. Two of the dolphins then left the survey area whilst the third dolphin continued to forage at depth.

Four Bottlenose dolphins

Three dolphins were originally spotted I this survey with two of the dolphins engaging in leaping and tail slapping behaviour whilst the other dolphin which was closer to the harbour wall was slowly milling at the surface. These three dolphins were then joined by a fourth individual which was also engaging in leaping behaviour before three of the dolphins left the survey area. Two dolphins then returned to the survey rea and engaged in mingling behaviour close to the harbour wall. Two of these dolphins then left the survey area whilst the third mingled near the cardinal buoy before also leaving the survey area.
