31/10/2017: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seals

Weather conditions: Sunny/fair, sea state 1/2, wind direction S

Bottlenose dolphins were seen for nearly the entire of this first survey. One dolphin was spotted first foraging offshore, and then another dolphin was spotted foraging near the cardinal marker. Four dolphins, including one calf, then appeared foraging near the headland and the harbour wall before travelling east. The dolphins then foraged across the bay in groups of two.

Weather conditions: overcast/fair, sea state 1, wind direction S

Bottlenose dolphins were spotted for the first hour of this survey before disappearing around the headland. A group of five were seen leaping and head slapping near the harbour wall while two foraged near the cardinal marker. A group of four were then seen leaping and head slapping behind the cardinal marker, with four foraging in front of it. The group leaping was then joined by another dolphin and moved across to leap in front of the wall before disappearing.

Two female Atlantic grey seals were spotted scanning near the harbour wall.
