31/07/15 Eight Bottlenose Dolphins, One Harbour Porpoise and Five Atlantic Grey Seals.

4hr survey, Start time 10:00
Weather conditions: sea state 1 increasing to 3, visibility >10km, light swell
Eight bottlenose dolphins, one harbour porpoise and two grey seals

There were sightings immediately at the beginning of this survey with two groups of two bottlenose dolphins foraging in the harbour in the first 10 minutes less than 100 metres from the boat. After this there was about 40 minutes without any sightings until a solitary harbour porpoise was spotted travelling south east. The next four sightings were of solitary bottlenose dolphins, most of which were foraging. The team were also lucky and saw bow riding, fish chasing and leaping behaviours during these sightings. The final sighting was of a pair of Atlantic grey seals, one of which was confirmed as a mail as the trip returned to the harbour.

1.5hr survey. Start time 14:07
Weather conditions: sea state varied 1-4, visibility >10km, light swell
Three grey seals.

The only sighting on this survey was of three Atlantic grey seals at Birds Rock. Some of the animals were in the weather and the other hauled out on the rocks.
