31/07/12 Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seals

Four bottlenose dolphins including one calf

Three bottlenose dolphins (including one calf) were observed in front of the harbour wall. During this survey, they spent most of their time staying in this area, taking deep dives, foraging and chasing prey at the surface, fish were seen. Towards the end of the survey, the dolphins were seen leaping and tail slapping.  A fourth bottlenose dolphin was also observed travelling in a SE direction.

Six bottlenose dolphins including one calf

One bottlenose dolphin and one calf were seen; first in front of the harbour wall, and then travelling towards cardinal buoy were they stayed throughout the survey, they were taking long dives and foraging at depth. A further 4 bottlenose dolphins were also observed halfway through the survey, some travelled East towards cardinal buoy, whilst another was travelling westerly inland.

Two bottlenose dolphins and one Atlantic grey seal.

Two bottlenose dolphins were observed near cardinal buoy and then travelling occasionally westward. They spent the duration of the survey taking long dives and foraging at depth. One Atlantic grey seal was also seen close to the harbour wall.

Weather conditions; overcast/dull/rain; sea state 1, wind SW/SE
Three bottlenose dolphins.

Two bottlenose dolphins were first seen near cardinal buoy, they mostly stayed in this area, occasionally travelling WNW where they were joined by a third bottlenose dolphin. When not travelling, all the bottlenose dolphins were taking long dives and foraging at depth.

Four bottlenose dolphins.

Three bottlenose dolphins were seen near the fish factory in the early part of this survey. A forth bottlenose dolphin was also observed throughout the rest of the survey, moving between the fish factory and cardinal buoy. They were all foraging at depth/tasking long dives.
