3/10/2017: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seals

Weather conditions: fair/sunny, sea state 3/4, wind direction NW

Mother and calf pair, Jacky and jay, were seen foraging in New Quay harbour for 45 minutes before travelling north east. In the last 15 minutes a single dolphin was seen off the cardinal marker.

Weather conditions: fair/sunny/overcast, sea state 3/4, wind direction NW

Three dolphins, including a calf, were observed near the cardinal marker for the entirety of this survey. They were observed foraging, head slapping and leaping. An Atlantic grey seal was seen near the harbour wall in the last fifteen minutes.

Weather conditions: overcast, sea state 3, wind direction W

Four bottlenose dolphins were seen foraging near the cardinal maker for the 1st hour of the survey. During the second hour one dolphin moved closer to the harbour wall before heading back out to the cardinal marker. An Atlantic Grey Seal was also seen near the harbour wall.

Weather conditions: overcast/sunny, sea state 3/4, wind direction W

Dolphins were seen for the entirety of this survey, mainly near the cardinal marker and then further offshore. Four bottlenose dolphins including a calf were observed foraging near the cardinal marker, with two more displaying leaping and tail slapping further offshore. The group of four then moved east towards the end of the survey. An Atlantic grey seal was also observed in the water near the harbour wall.

Only one bottlenose dolphin was seen during the first half hour foraging near the cardinal marker.

Weather conditions: fair/sunny, sea state 2/3, wind direction W

This survey started with an Atlantic grey seal swimming west past the harbour wall. A single bottlenose dolphin was then seen foraging near the cardinal marker before disappearing. Another seal was seen bottling near the harbour wall, before four more dolphins were seen travelling east into the bay.
