30/10/2013 – Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seals

2 hour survey, start time 09:00
Weather conditions: Fair/overcast, sea state 2, wind S
Five bottlenose dolphins including one calf and one Atlantic grey seal

Bottlenose dolphins were seen from the start of the survey, with three individuals including a mother and calf spending much of their time between the cardinal buoy and the fish factory. These dolphins were witnessed leaping, tail slapping and foraging. Two further dolphins spent over an hour by the cardinal buoy where they were thought to be foraging at depth for much of the time. The mother and calf were last seen travelling west.

One Bottlenose dolphin and two Atlantic grey seals

One bottlenose dolphin was spotted travelling NW at the beginning of the survey however there were no further dolphin sightings for the remainder of this survey. Two Atlantic grey seals were seen close to the harbour wall for over an hour.

Weather conditions: overcast/rain, sea state 1 /2, wind S/SW
One Atlantic grey seal

There were no dolphins sightings throughout this survey however there was one Atlantic grey seal spotted close to the harbour wall.

2 hour survey, start time 15:00
Weather conditions: fair/overcast/rain, sea state 2/3, wind SW
Seven Bottlenose dolphins and two Atlantic grey seals

After half an hour of surveying two bottlenose dolphins were spotted heading West from the fish factory, these were shortly followed by three further dolphins. They then spent some time close to the harbour wall leaping and tail slapping. All dolphins were then seen travelling NW. Later four dolphins were seen not far from the harbour wall thought to be foraging and a further three were spotted out by the cardinal buoy again travelling NW. Two Atlantic grey seals were seen throughout the survey.
