30/09/13 – Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seals

2 hour survey, start time: 09:00
Weather conditions: Overcast/mist, sea state 2, wind SE-E

An Atlantic grey seal was spotted between the harbour wall and the cardinal buoy after 45 minutes of surveying but no bottlenose dolphins were spotted.

2 hour survey, start time: 11:00
Weather conditions: Fair, sea state 2, wind SE-ESE

An Atlantic grey seal was seen at the beginning of the survey swimming by the fish factory which was later joined by another seal. One bottlenose dolphin was seen a short distance from the fish factory once the seals had disappeared, travelling east and west, thought to be foraging at depth. It was later joined by another dolphin seen leaping out of the water.

Weather conditions: Overcast/fair/sunny, sea state 2, wind SE

At the start of the survey two bottlenose dolphins were seen travelling west towards the fish factory, no further sightings after the first 15 minutes of surveying.

2 hour survey, start time: 15:00
Weather conditions: Overcast, sea state 2-3, wind SE

No bottlenose dolphins were seen. For the last 30 minutes of the survey there were two sightings of an Atlantic grey seal, once by the harbour wall and again further out towards the fish factory.
