30/09/12: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seals

Eight bottlenose dolphins and one Atlantic grey seal

At the start of the survey three bottlenose dolphins were seen travelling east of the harbour wall. Another bottlenose dolphin and a calf were seen at the same time staying near the harbour wall. Another bottlenose dolphin was also seen staying by the cardinal buoy. These dolphins were seen throughout the survey. Half way through the survey they were seen in a group of five and then in a group of eight staying just north of the harbour wall. The group then split up into individual dolphins and groups of three and two who were also staying near the harbour wall.  Half way into the survey one male Atlantic grey seal was seen close to the harbour wall but then wasn’t seen for the rest of the survey.

Six bottlenose dolphins

Six bottlenose dolphins, including one calf, were seen between the harbour wall and the fish factory during the survey. They were seen staying and thought to be foraging at depth.

Five bottlenose dolphins

Five bottlenose dolphins, including one calf, were seen throughout the survey between the fish factory and the harbour wall. They were seen staying and thought to be foraging at depth.

Four bottlenose dolphins and one Atlantic grey seal

Four bottlenose dolphins were seen travelling towards the fish factory at the start of the survey. They were then seen by the cardinal buoy staying and were thought to be foraging at depth. They weren’t seen during the last 15 minutes of the survey. One Atlantic grey seal was seen at the end of the survey south of the harbour wall.
