30/07/2015: Eight bottlenose dolphins.

2hr survey. Start time 09:00.
Weather conditions: Sunny/fair, sea state 3, wind direction NW.
Five bottlenose dolphins.

In the first half of the survey period two bottlenose dolphins were briefly observed travelling south past the harbour wall, with regular surfacing and a consistent heading, before disappearing. In the second half of the survey period three bottlenose dolphins were observed in front of the harbour wall, travelling east with regular surfacing and a consistent heading, whilst the two bottlenose dolphins from the previous sighting were again observed, taking long dives, thought to be foraging at depth, south-east of the harbour wall. Three of the bottlenose dolphins later moved closer to the cardinal marker, taking long dives and surfacing irregularly, and the others disappeared.

Three bottlenose dolphins.

The three bottlenose dolphins from the end of the previous land survey were observed taking long dives and surfacing irregularly, thought to be foraging at depth, close to the cardinal marker for the entire first half of the survey period. Two of the dolphins travelled west past the harbour wall towards the end of the first half of the survey period before leaving the area, with the third also disappearing for the rest of the survey.
