30/05/2015: 14 Bottlenose dolphins and 1 Atlantic grey seal

Four bottlenose dolphins

From the start of the survey there were two bottlenose dolphins spotted in-between the harbour wall and the cardinal buoy. They were milling around the surface implying they may have been socialising or looking for some food. These two dolphins stayed in the survey area for the entirety of the survey and were also joined by another group of two dolphins coming in from the fish factory.

The same original group of dolphins were spotted at the start of the survey and stayed in the survey area throughout the whole survey period. Once again they were joined by another two and were spotted milling, foraging and leaping for a while around the cardinal buoy.

Weather conditions: Overcast/dull, sea state 2, wind direction NW
Ten bottlenose dolphins and one Atlantic grey seal

Throughout the survey period there were a group of dolphins spotted moving around survey area showing off with a lot of splashing and leaping around. At one stage they’re numbers were peaked at ten individuals, there was also a sighting of an Atlantic grey seal. Halfway through the survey they quickly disappeared around the headland.
