30/04/2015: 15 bottlenose dolphins.

2hr survey. Start time 7:00.

Weather conditions: Overcast/dull, sea state 3, wind direction W/NW.

Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout the entirety of the survey. Throughout the survey period three bottlenose dolphins, one identified as a calf, were seen taking long dives, possibly foraging, near the harbour wall. A lone bottlenose dolphin was also spotted roughly 1km east of the harbour wall towards the last half hour of the survey.

2hr survey. Start time 9:00.
Weather conditions: Overcast/dull, sea state 3, wind direction SW.

Half way through the survey, a lone bottlenose dolphin was seen taking long dives, possibly foraging, and then milling about the surface near the harbour wall. A further three bottlenose dolphins were seen just west of the cardinal buoy, also milling about the surface. One of the dolphins began to travel NE from the harbour wall, with another showing fast moving behaviours, circling with leaps/tail slaps/lunges. The remaining two stayed near the cardinal buoy, milling about the surface. Within the last quart of the survey period two of the dolphins were seen travelling, with regular surfacing, in an eastward direction towards the cardinal buoy, with a further lone dolphin seen taking long dives at the cardinal buoy. At the end of the survey period a lone bottlenose dolphin was observed travelling with regular surfacing in a north-easterly direction, past the cardinal buoy.

Weather conditions: Overcast/dull, sea state 2-3, wind direction N/NW.

Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout the entirety of the survey. Within the first quart of the survey period a lone bottlenose dolphin was observed taking long dives, possibly foraging, near the harbour wall. A further two, one a calf, were seen near the cardinal buoy, showing signs of fast circling, with leaps/tail slaps/lunges. By the second quart of the survey period the adult and calf were seen mingling at the surface near the cardinal buoy, and another two dolphins were spotted nearby taking long dives, possibly foraging. In the second half of the survey period the adult and calf were seen near the harbour wall, mingling at the surface.

Weather conditions: Fair/sunny, sea state 2, wind direction NW.

In the first half of the survey period a lone bottlenose dolphin was observed taking long dives, possibly foraging, and milling about the surface near the harbour wall.

Weather conditions: Sunny, sea state 2, wind direction NW.

No sightings, however the first terns of the season were seen.
