29/08/2017: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seals

No marine mammal sightings, but three gannets were spotted.

Weather conditions: overcast/rain, sea state 3, wind direction NW

No marine mammal sightings, but two turnstones were seen foraging along the harbour wall.

In the second half of the survey an Atlantic grey seal was seen in the water near the cardinal marker. Two bottlenose dolphins were then spotted foraging in the bay in the last half an hour of the survey.

A group of five very active bottlenose dolphins were in the bay for most of this survey, with a lot of splashing and head and tail slapping recorded. The group were not seen for the last half an hour of the survey.

There were no sightings until the last 15 minutes of this survey, when two bottlenose dolphins were spotted foraging quite close to the harbour wall.

The same two bottlenose dolphins as seen in the last survey remained in the bay for this survey, and three more bottlenose dolphins joining the group with a lot of activity and splashing recorded with some bow riding seen. A female Atlantic grey seal was also spotted by the harbour wall in the last hour of the survey.
