29/08/2013 – 16 bottlenose dolphins, five Atlantic grey seals

Four bottlenose dolphins, five Atlantic grey seals

The survey began with five Atlantic grey seals hauled out by the bird colonies half an hour into the survey. One of these seals was a male and three were females, along with one juvenile.  The next sighting occurred on the return leg of the survey, with four bottlenose dolphins seen foraging around the bay.

Six bottlenose dolphins

Two minutes into the survey two dolphins were spotted, one adult and one calf, foraging just east of the harbour wall. The next sighting took place by the cardinal buoy with two more dolphins foraging. A final sighting occurred on the return leg of the journey close to the cardinal buoy again, with one adult and one calf foraging and travelling west.

The surveys first sighting took place one hour in, with one adult dolphin seen foraging north east of the fish factory. Another sighting quickly followed with another adult foraging in a similar position.

The first sighting took place an hour into the survey, with two bottlenose dolphins seen foraging and travelling east from the fish factory. Another sighting near the end of the survey spotted with two bottlenose dolphins foraging and travelling north just east of the fish factory.
