29/06/15: 19 Bottlenose dolphins and two Atlantic grey seals

2hr survey. Start time 07:00
Weather conditions: fair to overcast, sea state 1, wind direction SW-W
Eight bottlenose dolphins and one Atlantic grey seal

Right at the beginning of this survey two bottlenose dolphins were spotted, doing long dives near the cardinal buoy, later doing leaps and tail slaps more north of the wall. Then they left the area, and one Atlantic grey seal was spotted just off Dolau beach, bottling in the water. Over half an hour later three bottlenose dolphins were seen north of the wall, doing long dives, suspected to be feeding at depth. Then one of them came close to the harbour wall, while a fourth individual was spotted milling around at the surface north of the wall. During the last quarter of this survey this individual moved near the cardinal buoy, joined by another two new individuals. The other two individuals were still doing long dives north of the wall, and the lone individuals was still milling around at the surface near the head of the wall.

2hr survey. Start time 09:00
Weather conditions: overcast or fair, sea state 1, wind direction SW-S
Six bottlenose dolphins

At the start of this survey there was still one individual near the head of the harbour wall, and the three individuals near the cardinal buoy were still doing long dives, suspected to be foraging at depth. Then the lone individual left, while the other three kept on staying near the cardinal buoy. Approximately halfway through the survey two new individuals popped up north of the wall, while another individual was spotted in between the wall and the cardinal buoy, milling around at the surface. A couple minutes later two of them disappeared, while one individual was milling around at the surface north of the wall, where after this individual left as well. Then for the rest of the survey only the three individuals near the cardinal buoy were seen, mostly milling around at the surface.

2hr survey. Start time 11:00
Weather conditions: overcast to sunny, sea state 1, wind direction SW-SE-S
Eight bottlenose dolphins

Right at the beginning of this survey, still the three individuals of previous surveys were spotted near the cardinal buoy. A new individual was seen far north of the wall, travelling easterly. This one disappeared quite quickly, while another individual was seen near the fish factory, doing long dives. Then another two individuals, including one juvenile, entered the area, travelling easterly from the fish factory. Approximately halfway through this survey these three individuals joined each other, leaping north of the wall, while the other three individuals were still near the cardinal buoy. Then the three north of the harbour wall disappeared, and later the three which were near the cardinal buoy moved more north of the wall, doing leaps and tail slaps. At the end of the survey they came closer to the wall, doing long dives.

2hr survey. Start time 13:00
Weather conditions: sunny or fair, sea state 1, wind direction SW
Three bottlenose dolphins

During this survey only the three individuals of previous surveys were spotted, which had moved back to the cardinal buoy. Halfway through the survey they moved more westerly doing long dives, where after they travelled back eastwards again, toward the cardinal buoy. They were mostly doing long dives, suspected to be foraging at depth.

2hr survey. Start time 15:00
Weather conditions: sunny, sea state 1, wind direction SW
Four bottlenose dolphins and one Atlantic grey seal

At the beginning of this survey the same three individuals from the previous surveys were seen milling around at the surface north of the wall, while another new individuals was observed doing long dives near the fish factory. Then these two groups joined each other, and the four individuals stayed near the fish factory. Halfway through the survey they split, two of them stayed near the fish factory doing long dives, while the other two moved more closely towards the harbour wall. Later these last two moved more northwards, both groups doing long dives, suspected to be foraging at depth. Then they left past the fish factory, and at the end of the survey only one male Atlantic grey seals was seen near the harbour wall.

2hr survey. Start time 17:00
Weather conditions: Sunny to fair, sea state 2, wind direction W
Two bottlenose dolphins

After half an hour two bottlenose dolphins were spotted, milling around at the surface near the cardinal buoy. They stayed there for approximately an hour, and then they moved close to the harbour wall at the north side, where they were milling around at the surface at the end of this survey.
