29/05/2016: 6 Bottlenose Dolphins & 2 Atlantic Grey Seals

2hr survey. Start time 07:00
Weather conditions: fair/sunny, sea state: 1, wind direction: NW/none
6 bottlenose dolphins & 1 Atlantic grey seal

The survey began at 7am and immediately, dolphins were sighted in the bay. Three bottlenose dolphins (including a calf) were observed nearby the harbour wall displaying a range of behaviours including tail slaps, leaping out of the water and fast circling at the water surface together. A fourth bottlenose dolphin also appeared nearby this group and was thought to be foraging at depth due to the long dives it was taking. Also at the start of the survey, an Atlantic grey seal was spotted in the water near the headland, not too far from the dolphins. A further two bottlenose dolphins were sighted near the cardinal marker shortly afterwards and they were thought to be foraging at depth in the area.
