28/09/11: Bottlenose dolphins and an Atlantic grey seal

Five bottlenose dolphins

The bottlenose dolphins, including a calf, were seen throughout the survey travelling and foraging north of the harbour wall and at the cardinal buoy.  In the second half of the survey some leaping behaviour was also observed.

Nine bottlenose dolphins

Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout the whole 11:00 survey.  These dolphins, including a mother and calf, were mainly seen to be foraging and travelling between the cardinal buoy and fish factory.  Many of the bottlenose dolphins were also seen to be exhibiting leaping and tail slapping behaviour.

Weather conditions: Sunny, sea state 3-2, wind SE
Five bottlenose dolphins

Bottlenose dolphins were seen in the majority of the survey, with only one 15 minute interval having no sightings.  These dolphins were mostly seen foraging off either the fish factory or the cardinal buoy, some were also observed to be travelling between the two sites.

Three bottlenose dolphins and an Atlantic grey seal

Bottlenose dolphins were only seen in the first quarter of this survey.  A group of three were observed to be leaping and tail slapping off the fish factory.  Later in the survey, a female Atlantic grey seal was sighted close to the harbour wall.
