Three bottlenose dolphins

A mother and new born calf were seen towards the start of the survey foraging by the fish factory before travelling east. Towards the end of the survey one adult bottlenose dolphin was seen travelling eastwards off target rock.

2 hour survey, start time 12:00

Four bottlenose dolphins

Two adult bottlenose dolphins were seen within the first half hour of the trip; foraging near to the first bird colony. Another two dolphins were then spotted foraging close to the second bird colony.

4 hour survey, start time 14:00

Eighteen bottlenose dolphins

The first four dolphins were seen offshore from New Quay, they were leaping and foraging in a loose group. Next was an encounter with a group of eight dolphins which contained three juveniles, one calf and also a new born. This group was also foraging and leaping in close contact to one another. Near to the half way mark of the survey, four dolphins were spotted, again offshore from New Quay, foraging and tail slapping as well as bow riding. Upon entrance back into the harbour, two adult dolphins were seen foraging 500m from the boat.
