28/06/12: Bottlenose Dolphins.

2hr survey: 07:00 Weather conditions; overcast / dull - rain; Sea state: 1: Wind direction: SE/SW/S
Two Bottlenose Dolphins

Two bottlenose dolphins were seen after 30 minutes, foraging close to the harbour wall, one of which remained until mid survey. The other moved away to the cardinal buoy at which it foraged for the remainder of the survey.

2hr survey: 09:00
Weather conditions; Rain – overcast/dull; Sea state: 1: Wind direction: SW/S/SSE
Four Bottlenose Dolphins

Two bottlenose dolphins were seen initially, foraging around the cardinal buoy, from which one travelled to forage near the fish factory where two more joined including a juvenile. The survey ended with observations of the adult and juvenile moving away towards target rock and one bottlenose dolphin foraging at the cardinal buoy.

2hr survey: 11:00
Weather conditions; overcast / dull; Sea state: 1: Wind direction: S
Eight Bottlenose Dolphins

Initially, one bottlenose dolphin was observed fast circling, leaping and tail slapping near the fish factory and later another foraging at the cardinal buoy. After a quiet period six bottlenose dolphins were observed foraging on deep, long dives in the bay between the harbour wall and the fish factory.

2hr survey: 13:00
Weather conditions; Sunny – overcast/ dull; Sea state: 1 / 2: Wind direction: SW/S/SW
Six Bottlenose Dolphins

One bottlenose dolphin was observed foraging between the fish factory and cardinal buoy, eventually travelling to the same area as two others, including a juvenile, very close to the harbour wall. Another bottlenose dolphin was seen in the bay close to public swimming area. Near the end of the survey the group near the harbour were joined by two more bottlenose dolphins around the jetty area.

2hr survey: 15:00
Weather conditions; overcast and dull occasionally sunny; Sea state: 1 : Wind direction: SW
Six Bottlenose Dolphins

A mother and calf were seen foraging at the entrance of the harbour and then out towards the cardinal buoy as another mother and calf pair started foraging in front of the harbour wall. The two pairings came closer together in the central area between the cardinal buoy and harbour wall as another adult bottlenose dolphin joined them foraging. The group continued to forage across this area for the remainder of the survey at one point being joined by another adult dolphin, taking the total number of animals up to six.
