28/06/12: 21 Bottlenose Dolphins, 18 Atlantic Grey Seal

Six Bottlenose dolphins and 12 Atlantic grey seals

A juvenile bottlenose dolphin was seen foraging at the first bird colony and an adult at the second bird colony, also foraging. In the same area a seal was seen in the water. Just beyond Cwmtydu a mother and calf were seen travelling in a south west direction and a female Atlantic grey seal was in the water. At Trwyn Crou two grey seals were seen hauled out, along with eight in the water, seven of these were female, the remaining threes sex was not noted. At Target Rock a mother and calf bottlenose dolphin were seen foraging.

Seven Bottlenose Dolphins, three Atlantic grey seals

As the survey began one bottlenose dolphin was seen travelling west from the fish factory area of New Quay headland and a further four a little further on at bird rock including a juvenile. Between Llangrannog and Ynys Lochtyn three Atlantic grey seals were observed in the water; a male and a female and a lone female. On the return leg two bottlenose dolphins were seen foraging off the New Quay headland.

Eight Bottlenose dolphins, Three Atlantic grey seals

At Llangrannog three adult Atlantic grey seals were seen separately in the water, two females and one male. At Cwmtydu five bottlenose dolphins were seen foraging along with gannets diving. At New Quay harbour at the end of the trip three bottlenose dolphins were seen foraging.
