27/09/11: 24 bottlenose dolphins and two Atlantic grey seals

11 bottlenose dolphins

A group of three (including a calf), two (including a calf) and three bottlenose dolphins were all seen foraging off the cardinal buoy, in close succession, at the beginning of the survey.  Some of these individuals also exhibited leaping behaviour.  A further two adult bottlenose dolphins were also sighted foraging near the fish factory.  On the return to the harbour, a final adult bottlenose dolphin was seen foraging off the New Quay headland.

Thirteen bottlenose dolphins and two Atlantic grey seals

There was a sighting as soon as the survey began in New Quay harbour, with two adult bottlenose dolphins travelling and foraging near the boat.  There was a further sighting a short while later, southeast of the harbour wall, where eight bottlenose dolphins, including a calf and a juvenile, were leaping and foraging.  Down the coast at Castell Bach an adult Atlantic grey seal was sighted in the water.  Another adult seal was also seen off New Quay headland, in the water.  Finally, on the return to New Quay harbour three bottlenose dolphins were seen travelling west at Bird’s rock, this group was comprised of two adults and a calf.
