26/09/11: Bottlenose dolphins

2hr survey. Start time 09:00
Weather conditions: Sunny, sea state 2, wind SW or none
Nine bottlenose dolphins including two calves

Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout the survey period. The majority of individuals were seen leaping, breaching and tail-slapping north of the cardinal buoy. A few individuals were seen foraging just north of the harbour wall. The two mother-calf pairs were seen foraging and leaping around he cardinal buoy.

Weather conditions: Sunny/fair, sea state 1, wind S
Ten bottlenose dolphins including 3 calves

Bottlenose dolphins were observed throughout the survey period. The dolphins, including three mother-calf pairs were seen foraging around the cardinal buoy.  Percussive behaviour was also seen with associated bird feeding. The dolphins travelled over to the fish factory towards the end of the survey and began foraging off the headland.

Weather conditions: Fair/sunny, sea state 1, wind N
13 bottlenose dolphins including three calves

Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout the survey period. The dolphins were seen travelling in different directions around the survey area and milling or foraging around the cardinal buoy. The three mother-calf pairs were seen travelling north off the harbour wall. Breaching and tail-slapping was observed at the end of the survey period.

Weather conditions: Fair/overcast/dull, sea state 1, wind N or none
Eight bottlenose dolphins including one calf

Bottlenose dolphins were seen only at the start and end of the survey period. Four dolphins were seen travelling towards the fish factory from north of the harbour wall at the start of the survey. Two dolphins were later seen travelling towards the cardinal buoy and a mother-calf pair was seen foraging north of the harbour wall.
