26/07/12: 25 bottlenose dolphins, three Atlantic grey seals and one sunfish

Eleven bottlenose dolphins, two Atlantic grey seals and one sunfish

One bottlenose dolphins was seen at the start of the survey, foraging close to the fish factory. Five more bottlenose dolphins were seen shortly after at the fish factory. Two Atlantic grey seals were seen out of the water close to Trwyn Crou. A sunfish was spotted at bird’s rock and five bottlenose dolphins, including one calf, were seen on the return leg back at the fish factory.

Nine bottlenose dolphins

Four bottlenose dolphins, including one calf, were seen close to the fish factory leaping and tail slapping. An individual bottlenose dolphin was seen shortly afterwards in the same location foraging. Four bottlenose dolphins were seen on the way back into the harbour at the end of the survey, these animals were foraging and hunting for food.

Two bottlenose dolphins

One bottlenose dolphin was seen foraging by the cardinal buoy as we were leaving the harbour at New Quay. On our return to the harbour a dolphin was sighted once again foraging at the cardinal buoy.

Three bottlenose dolphins one Atlantic grey seal

At the cardinal buoy a group of two adults and one calf were seen foraging, milling and occasionally leaping at the cardinal buoy 40 meters from the boat initially and then coming closer towards the boat. During the offshore leg, just before Cwm Tydu, an adult Atlantic grey seal was seen swimming in towards the land and followed the boat for a while before diving out of sight.
