26/05/2016: 9 bottlenose dolphins and 3 Atlantic grey seals

9 bottlenose dolphins and 3 Atlantic grey seals

 

Five adults and one calf bottlenose dolphin were sighted at 10h50. They were first spotted around 150 metres from the boat, while they were foraging. Tail slapping and leaping behaviours were seen. During the encounter, two gannets were seen associating with the dolphins. Ten minutes later, two groups of bottlenose dolphins were sighted. The first group was composed by a single individual that was foraging 150 meters away from the boat; the other was composed by an adult and a juvenile dolphin. They were foraging 300 meters away from the boat. They displayed a tail slapping behaviour.

At 11h38 one Atlantic Grey Seal female was spotted travelling in SE direction 50 meters from the boat.

At 11h52 one Atlantic Grey Seal female was spotted bottling in the water 50 meters from the boat. Then she started travelling in N direction.

At 11h58 one Atlantic Grey Seal female was spotted swimming in S direction 50 meters from the bow of the boat.

5 bottlenose dolphins and 2 Atlantic grey seals and 1 peregrine falcon

 

Four adults and one calf bottlenose dolphins were sighted at 13h30, while they were foraging 1000 meters from the boat. The dolphins didn’t approach.

At 13h58 one Atlantic Grey Seal female was sighing while she was swimming 25 meters from the boat.

Near the end of the survey an Atlantic Gray Sal bull was seen hauled-out on a rock. Before the arrival to the harbour, a peregrine falcon was spotted while it was mobbing a raven to protect its own nest.
