26/05/13: Atlantic grey seals and Bottlenose dolphins

Weather conditions: Sunny, sea state 1, wind NW/NNW
4 Bottlenose Dolphins

4 Bottlenose Dolphins were seen throughout the entire duration of the survey, travelling in various directions and thought to be foraging at great depths due to the long dives. Visitor passenger boats were within close proximity to the Dolphins however they acted within the code of conduct and the Dolphins showed no signs of distress. However a motor boat crossed the path of the Dolphins later on in the survey and the Dolphins moved away.

8 Bottlenose Dolphins

5 Bottlenose Dolphins were present at the start of the survey however after this the numbers fluctuated between 4-2. The Dolphins were displaying various travel behaviours and some intervals of tail slaps. Despite a large amount of boat activity the Dolphins showed no change in behaviour. However towards the end of the survey a rowing boat race began which consequently caused the Dolphins to move on.

Six Bottlenose Dolphins

Bottlenose Dolphins were present throughout a large duration of the survey, with numbers fluctuating between 6 and 3. At the start of the survey, despite a large amount of boat activity, the Dolphins displayed varying travel behaviours and showed no signs of distress. However as the boat activity increased, due to a boat race being carried out, the Dolphins began to head away from the boats in clear distress. After a sail boat began pursuing the Dolphins they quickly dispersed and were not seen for the rest of the survey.

A single grey seal was seen towards the end of the survey.
