2hr survey. Start time 09:00
Weather conditions: sunny, sea state 2/3, wind direction SE
Dolphins were seen throughout this survey, a total of 10 bottlenose dolphins with 2 calves. The first five dolphins were spotted leaping and head slapping near the headland, before joining up with a mother and calf to form a group of seven. Another dolphin was observed foraging near the headland, with another two leaping near the headland. Two dolphins then moved to forage closer to the wall. For the last hour, dolphins were seen travelling all over the bay, stopping to leap and splash offshore from the wall.
2hr survey. Start time 11:00
Weather conditions: sunny, sea state 1, wind direction SW/W
Bottlenose dolphins were once again seen for the entire of this survey. Three dolphins were seen foraging offshore near the headland, where they were then joined by another single dolphin. The single dolphin then came further into the bay while the group of three travelled around the headland. This single dolphin then came in close to the harbour wall to forage, while a mother and calf pairing foraged further offshore. A group of five including one calf was then seen in the last fifteen minutes, where they were observed leaping and head slapping.
2hr survey. Start time 13:00
Weather conditions: sunny/fair, sea state 1/2, wind direction W/NW
Dolphins were seen for nearly the entirety of this survey, with them only being missing for one fifteen minute interval. Five dolphins, including one calf, were seen milling at the surface near the cardinal marker, where they were then joined by another dolphin and began to forage. One dolphin then came close to the harbour wall, while four remained foraging near the cardinal marker. A group of six, including two calves, was then seen foraging offshore from the harbour wall while a group of five including two calves milled at the surface near the cardinal marker.
2hr survey. Start time 15:00
Weather conditions: sunny, sea state 2, wind direction SW/S
Dolphins were seen for the first hour and a half of this survey, before disappearing in the last half an hour. A group six, including two calves, were observed foraging offshore from the harbour wall, while a single bottlenose dolphin was seen foraging in front of the harbour wall. The large group then became three dolphins (including one calf) foraging near the cardinal before they disappeared.
